Eleven makers in one Yangon workshop

Every Irrawaddy jacket is cut and stitched at Thazin Leatherworks in Hlaing Tharyar, Yangon. Three cutters, six machinists and two finishers share one floor.

We buy whole sides of full-grain lambskin and cowhide, tanned in Tamil Nadu, India. The cutters work around marks by hand so each panel follows the grain.

The size chart was right on the money. Soft leather, heavy zips, and it arrived on day 19 as promised.

Stiff for the first week, now it has softened at the elbows. Sleeves are long enough, which is rare.
